Week 1 Review

I can’t believe the first week of Senior Project is over! There have been so many ups and downs, but mostly ups so I’ll take that as a win. I started the week with some research and then hiked up to Mud Pond for my first recipe. The scone/biscuits turned out SO much better than I ever expected! I had my expectations very low to start because I had no clue if anything I was doing was going to work. I think because my first attempt went so well I assumed the next recipe I tried would go just as well or maybe even better. When the cake didn’t work out I was disappointed and a little frustrated. Other than the little hiccup on Friday I’ve been loving what I’ve been doing. I’ve had the idea of opening my own food truck or bakery in the future, so being able to bake and work at Bluebird this week was a great experience for me. I started my own little bakery during quarantine last year and had a dedicated group of buyers, but when I went back to school they had to find other places to go. It was awesome to see how Patty planned out what she would bake when to make sure everything would be ready in time. Then I got to be with her on Thursday morning as she prepped and set up shop. All the things I make are usually made to order in advance so I’d never had the experience of selling to people in this manner before. It gave me a lot of appreciation for Patty and everyone else who works in this industry. This coming week I’m planning on bringing another treat from Sophie’s Bakery to Bluebird! So I’ll spend two days baking at Patty’s house this week. After the success of the bagels from last week, I’m also going to make a batch or two more. I got a new stove over the weekend so I’m hoping at least one day this week I’ll be able to make something! After finishing this week, I realized one of my goals is no longer possible, so I worked with Patty to adjust it and now I can’t wait to share backcountry baking with even more people than I would’ve been able to with my original goal. I hope to see you all tomorrow! - Sophie
Sophie, Well Done!
ReplyDeleteGreat reflection, Sophie. I like what you said about how impressed you were with Patty's ability to plan what to bake and when. I think you are also good at this kind of thinking!
